How I Fake Perfect Skin

Who doesn’t want perfect skin? For as long as I can remember, I’ve always battled with pores and blackheads – and my oily skin doesn’t help. I’ve tried a lot of products with claims to reduce the size of pores or banish them completely. But I’ve learned over the years to set realistic expectations of what can be done about my large pores. But I’ve been able to fake it. Whether you’re looking to diminish the look of your pores or you simply like your skin looking squeaky clean, here’s a few things worth trying to achieve a flawless and poreless canvas (read: perfect skin).

1. Get your skin naked.
Remove your makeup and cleanse the skin. I’m pretty guilty of doing one without the doing other… especially after I stroll in after a night out. But it is important to ensure you deeply cleanse your skin to rid it of any deep-penetrating dirt. Also, dead skin build-up can interfere with the smooth texture and cause blackheads, whiteheads and even breakouts.
Begin your cleansing routine with a gentle makeup remover with a cotton pad. I use Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. Next wash your face to remove any unseen dirt. For someone like me with an oily skin type who is looking for an effective cleanse, try the Bioré Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar. It does an impressive job at drawing out excess oils and making skin feel incredibly clean.

2. Take a strip off.
A less damaging way to extract blackheads and avoid scarring is with Bioré Pore Strips. I find they work best when my pores are open, which for me is after a shower. I use the Bioré Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips twice a week to pull out blackheads and dirt. After leaving one on my nose on for about 15 minutes I’m instantly gratified with my skin and the dirt left on the strip. Additionally, these strips contain charcoal, which helps reduce oil and shine.

3. Get primed.
Now that your canvas (a.k.a. your gorgeous skin) is all prepped, your makeup should feel as if it glides on. Although I’ve learned I can’t change the size of my pores, I do change their appearance. I use the Photo Finish Foundation Pore Minimizing Primer because it blurs the look of pores while it smoothes out my skin. This stuff instantly makes your face look flawless with a matte finish while helping your makeup last longer.

And that, friends, is how you fake perfect skin – even when you have large pores.
