After attending New York Fashion Week last month, I’ve started using some beauty trends I noticed there to vamp up my own everyday makeup.
- Glitter, Glitter, Glitter
Think sparkles are only for 10-years-olds? The runway disagrees with you—this glitter revival doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. DKNY, Laurence & Chico and many more designers have spoken: Glitter is the glitzy direction for the foreseeable future. My go-to glitter product is Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow Palette, which has inspired me to create several dazzling looks without going into tween territory.
- Geometric Shapes
Runway makeup can be exaggerated, but if you feel like trying something more interesting and adventurous, those awe-inspiring out-of-the-box beauty looks can be translated into a Friday-night-out look. All you need is to put your fear aside and embrace those geometric shapes from the runway—maybe try a more angular shape with your eyeliner or experiment with contouring for more chiselled cheekbones.
If you prefer something softer, try the monochromatic makeup look Denibi did on the runway. That’s when you wear similar shades within the same colour family. For this easy look, I apply a lip primer, then use Rouge Dior Couture Colour Lipstick in #439 Why Not. This peachy orange hue also works on my cheeks as a blush, allowing me to create a super-fresh monochromatic style in two seconds flat. You can always throw on a peachy eyeshadow to finish it off with a bit more colour.
- A Low Bun
It’s time to let your topknot drop down. For the last few fashion weeks, the low bun look was everywhere, and—good news—it’s super easy to create, whether I want to wear it to the beach or for a special occasion. All you need is some hairpins and a light-hold hairspray like Schwarzkopf Styliste Ultîme Amino-Q Hold Hair Spray.
So next time you feel like you need a little beauty refresher, check out the runway and get inspired!
