The days are getting longer. That’s what I keep telling myself on my morning commute as I wait for the sun to rise, and when I head home just missing the sun setting before I leave the office at 5 p.m. It’s not me to be all negative like this, and I’m not very patient either (sorry sun!), so I’m taking matters into my own hands. Here’s how.
I’m embracing winter.
I’m taking a page from Cher Horowitz’s self-makeover book and I’m going to “carpe diem, okay?” There is no better time of the year to enjoy the snow and cold, so I’m seizing the day. I made a skating date with my good friend Trina, and we vowed to do it more. Since she’s a former figure skater and I did play forward on my high school hockey team, we love whizzing around the kids on the ice – showing them who knows how to skate. While normally patio drinks would be our typical girls night, we had a blast at the rink. It’s a bit out of the ordinary and frankly hilarious.
I took a mini winter break.
While I don’t have a lot of time to vacation this time of year, I was able to sneak away for two days last week. I headed to the Four Seasons in Dallas to take advantage of their cool new fitness facility. I took a Technogym group cycling class at the hotel with former Miss Texas, Natalie Clarke. While a beach might be nice this time of year, a quick fitness vacay was just what I needed.
I’m going to stop making excuses.
Speaking of working out… While I might feel just as good sitting on a couch to Netflix & chill, winter is no excuse to avoid working out. (There. I’ve been told.) So I’m sticking with my workout schedule and finding motivation in my cute new leggings.
I’m indulging with a spa date.
February 1st is marked on my calendar. I’ve got the day off and I’m soothing my winter-dry skin with a hydrating facial. Nothing excites me more than the thought of a hot herbal tea, lounging in terrycloth robe and the relief I’ll get from the neck massage that comes with my facial. It will be a perfect day.
