Olive oil, sesame oil, canola oil. There was a time not too long ago that these were the only kinds of oils you’d find chez moi. But with the skyrocketing popularity of beauty oils, and of course the can’t-deny results, I’ve become dedicated to stocking my vanity with all manner of the slick stuff.
While coconut oil remains the ultimate multi-purpose workhorse, Argan is busy keeping me looking youthful (RIGHT!?) and tea tree oil was the original trick to zap zits when I was a teen, Tahitian monoi oil is the latest natural elixir to earn my respect.
Made from soaking Tiare flowers, or Tahitian gardenias, in coconut oil, the resulting mixture has been used for ages by French Polynesians to keep their hair and skin looking flawless but only recently has been a thing for us in North America.
Eco-friendly brand Live Clean’s Monoi Oil hair care line, complete with shampoo, conditioner, leave-in treatment and leave-in conditioner, smells like a cross between cucumber water and coconuts and helped make my hair feel silky and strong. Bamboo extract sweetens the deal as the richest natural source of silica.
I love a good multi-purpose product and Vasanti’s Monoi Magic works as a nighttime face oil (my preference), hair treatment, body lotion and it’s 98% natural, so head’s up that it shifts from solid to liquid state when it’s below room temperature.
Ojon’s award-winning Rare Blend Oil delivers that good good for lacklustre locks, which is happening to me. When I want to give my hair a boost, a single drop (for real) of this potent concoction gives it life, adds shine and tames frizz post blow-dry.
