I own a lot of shoes. A lot. It’s a bit of a shoe obsession. Sure, being a health editor, I get to test out running and training kicks when they launch, but it’s not just the job that is busting my closest – it’s my shoe hoarding habit. I find motivation in sportswear, fit fashion and gym clothes. Don’t believe me? Check out my Instagram feed: instagram.com/lisahannam. I love putting together #fitoutfit posts. So, you see, it makes sense I have a ton of sneakers in a ton of colours for a ton of different activities.
Now that I have that out of the way – don’t judge me – but I’ve added one, two, three, four more pairs to my wardrobe…. ahem, my spring shoe wardrobe. Here they are and why I’m good with it.
(I’m wearing Essie in Sunshine State of Mind on my nails.)
Nike Lunar Sculpt
Why I love it: This colour way is fresh. It perfectly pairs an athletic feel with street-style taste. I’m wearing these at my NTC classes. I found that the flat sole made balance work, like single leg deadlifts, seem easier. I was more stable.
Know this: The fit is small. So try them on if you can, and you may just go up half a size. Also, I found that thin socks help for a better fit.
(I’m wearing Dior Vernis in Rouge.)
Adidas PureBoost X
Why I love it: The running shoe has been reinvented. Mic drop. But, seriously, this shoe looks comfortable and it is. It allows your foot to move naturally, and I loved it for short treadmill runs.
Know this: I have a normal arch step, so I’m fine with this type of support. Not sure about other insteps, so you would have to try it for yourself. I do wonder about long-term wear as the fabric does pull away from the sole. Reach out to me in six months and I’ll let you know if it ripped.
(I’m wearing Essie in Virgin Snow.)
New Balance Fresh Foam 1080
Why I love it: I didn’t expect to like this shoe. In fact, I was thinking of trying a different pair with a slimmer sole. I find a very structured shoe can make my foot cramp (and fall asleep!). But this one didn’t, to my surprise. This is another treadmill shoe I can put into rotation.
Know this: You really need to try this on to understand that the boldness of the shoe has nothing to do with the fit. The height of the sole is not as thick as it appears. As I was told by the staff at New Balance, “It’s a lot of shoe, but it really is comfortable.” I think that’s because of the roomy toe space, too.
(I would totally wear Paul & Joe in 16.)
Skechers GoWalk3 Stretch
Why I love it: Black. White. Pink dots. They’re everything. I actually wore them to a circuit class. (Bad, bad Lisa. Wear athletic shoes for what they’re intended for. That’s how you get injured. #shame.) There’s lots of toe room – I’m loving how the latest shoe launches now have more flexible toe beds.
Know this: I never, ever thought I’d own a pair of “walking shoes.” I didn’t think I was the demo for such things. Turns out I am.
The lesson I’ve learned from my recent shoe inventory: Ain’t no shame in my shoe game.
