Remember when I said I was torn about my feelings for the summer? Well, I am so over this hot weather. I really hate how the heat takes over my mood and my not-so-Instagram-worthy summer wardrobe. It’s also made me become lazy with my hairstyling routine. Because I don’t want to deal with additional heat from styling tools or sweaty hair flips, I’ve been rocking the same hairstyle all summer long—a topknot, which not only makes sense for summer, but also screams fall. No other hairdo pairs more perfectly with a cozy sweater or a chic dress. Sleek or messy, the topknot has become my favourite go-to hairstyle. Having shorter hair, I thought it was almost impossible to achieve a polished topknot, but of course beauty bloggers always find a way to make things work.
- Here’s my tool kit:
- Bobby pins (a lot)
- Hair brush
- Three hair elastics
I part my hair in two sections: top and bottom. Working on the top section, I brush the hair upwards towards the centre of my head, where my topknot will sit. Using the first elastic, I securely tie that section of hair in a ponytail.
I then brush the bottom section of hair up towards the ponytail. After smoothing out any bumps, I grab my second elastic and tie that section of my hair together with my ponytail. This is going to be the base of the topknot.
Once all the hair is secure and combined into one single ponytail, I start wrapping the hair around to create the base of my bun. Once I’m satisfied with the shape of the bun, I grab a third elastic and tie it into place.
Then I use bobby pins to secure any loose hairs on the back and sides of my head.
Lastly, I seal it with some hairspray, here the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Forever Full All Day Hold Hairspray.
And there you have it! What I love about the topknot is that it can be super laidback but still sexy and polished. While this hairdo is great for keeping me cool, it’s definitely giving me all the fall feels. I can’t wait to rock my topknot with a more contoured face and bolder brows.
