The Non-Obvious Way I’m Getting Rid of Greys

I was in eighth grade when I spotted my first grey hairs, so yeahhhh, I’ve had plenty of time to come to terms with my silver flecks. But that doesn’t mean I’ve fully embraced a salt and pepper mane (not yet anyway). I’m a huge fan of at-home hair colour kits, and I swear by Nice n’ Easy Root Touch-Up to combat regrowth (that’s another post for another time), but sometimes even that feels like too much effort. Not only that, but sometimes I want to give my tresses a wee break from all the ammonia/peroxide, etc. that permanent hair dyes usually contain.

Enter this genius invention: Root cover up spray! Imagine a world in which disguising grey hair is as easy as applying your fave dry shampoo (or spray-painting your head?!). Well my friends, THAT DAY IS HERE. L’Oréal Paris and Marc Anthony both have temporary colour sprays that can cover your grey roots in less than 30 seconds. Seriously. Spoiler alert: They actually work really, really well.

Almost a little too well. The spray is supposed to wash out after one shampoo, but much to my surprise my colour stuck around. I probably shouldn’t be complaining about the fact that my greys were concealed so thoroughly (and so easily), but I wanted to take a “before” photo, and now I can’t. It’s almost like my greys were never there (I assure you they’re under there somewhere).

One last note based on my experiments, watch your part! It’s easy to go spray crazy and end up with colour where you don’t exactly need it. The good news is that the colour comes off easily with makeup remover wipes or good old soap and water. Oh, and you might want to protect your pillowcase with a towel (just in case there’s any transfer action while you sleep).
