Like most women, I only wash my hair a couple times a week (depending on how dirty it gets). Over the years, I’ve noticed my locks have gotten dryer and duller with all the constant dyeing and heat damage I put them through. Recently I found out that your shampoo and conditioner can also be guilty of zapping moisture from your hair and I’ve got a great way to add hydration during my bi-weekly hair washes. It involves a little extra time and effort but the results make it worthwhile, promise.
It’s crazy to think that even just washing your hair can cause unwanted damage, so I’ve added an extra step to my routine to prep my hair against losing moisture at the hands of my shampoo. A few pumps, (three max!) of Dove Pure Care Oil Nourishing Treatment with African Macadamia Oil goes a long way. I apply it mid-length to my hair and work my way down to the tips. Coating the ends is key because they’re more likely to get damaged, then I apply whatever is left over on my hands through the roots and top part of my hair. To make sure all that oily goodness gets soaked up I leave it in for about two to three minutes before hopping into the shower.
Then last but not least, to give my hair a final dose of hydration, I reach for my favourite mask after my usual shower sesh: L’Oréal Paris Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Mask Balm. It contains six precious oils, including argan oil which is famous for serious deep conditioning and frizz-fighting. I put the balm on my towel dried hair for a few minutes, rinse and voila! My hair is softer than it was before my shower.
