If you’re like me, you’ve been going through life thinking there’s only one proper way to apply dry shampoo. The OG way is to lift up sections of your hair and spritz, followed by massaging it in with your fingers and finally brushing it through your hair. I earnestly used dry shampoo that way until until my recent deskside with Batiste, purveyors of dry shampoo and one of the bestselling brands around. Hairstylist Nina Farrauto was on hand and shared a dry shampoo-applying tip that was a game changer.
How not to apply dry shampoo.
According to her, there’s a better way to do it. Instead of lifting parts of your hair up in haphazard sections, you lift sections of your hair up (gathering and lifting entire sections of the hair as if you were doing a half up, half down style) and continuously spray horizontally from one end to the other.

This way, you’re getting body all over instead of in random sections of the head. It also allows you to spritz evenly instead of in small bursts, which gets the product to your scalp and helps absorb all that excess oil properly. So here’s me after giving Farrauto’s way a whirl and it makes all the difference.
