It’s no secret that I’m a red lipstick fanatic, and my tastes are fairly traditional: I like a good old creamy bullet in a twist-up tube. However, lately there have been lots of liquid lipsticks crossing my desk, and I decided to see what all the fuss was about (and find out whether a liquid lipstick could stand up to my rather substantial daily coffee habit). I put five different formulas to the test and guess what? I loved all of them for different reasons. And when it comes right down to it, can you ever really have too many red lipsticks?! (Don’t answer that.)
Gold star for longevity: Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso
They weren’t kidding with the “Stay All Day” moniker. After eight hours and two (ok, three) cups of coffee, this lipstick was still going strong. It also endured lunch and several glasses of water (I swear, I don’t just drink coffee), and I didn’t have to reapply it until I was leaving the office for the evening. This guy goes the distance.
Gold star for moisture: L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Gloss in Shanghai Scarlet
You know how some matte lipsticks make your lips feel like all the moisture’s been sucked right out of them? That is so NOT the case with this lippy. My lips actually felt better after I applied it. Plus, it has a bit of a glossy finish that helps lips look luminous and smooth (as opposed to parched and cracked).
Gold star for texture: NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Kitten Heels
This is one lipstick purchase you won’t regret, and the texture truly is one-of-a-kind. As you can see from the name, it’s described as a “liquid suede cream”, but once this lippy dries it actually looks like velvet. It’s super-luxe looking (without a super-luxe price tag).
Gold star for scent: Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Passion
If you’re looking for more of a raspberry red, this hue is a winner winner chicken dinner. It provides more of a stain-like effect, so you can layer to your heart’s content. Oh, and it also smells like fruity vanilla amazingness. Take my word for it, it’s seriously addictive.
Gold star for coverage: Joe Fresh Lip Crème in Ruby
This lipstick is ultra-creamy and opaque, so one coat is all you need. It glides on like a dream, and it’s the perfect shade of true red. What more could a girl ask for? (Don’t answer that either.)
