There were a lot of good beauty launches this spring, so much so that I found myself testing way more products than I usually do. Here are a few of my favourite things this month.
NARS Dual-Intensity Blush in Sexual Content
The NARS Undercover summer collection had me at first sight with their colourful packaging (the illustrations were done by contemporary artist Konstantin Kakanias). My favourite product from the colour collection is this blush duo. There are two shades, a golden peach and a rosy pink almost bordering on rose gold. You can intensify both by wearing them wet or keep it subtle by putting it on dry. More importantly, the shades work just as well as eyeshadows, which means you’ll have one less thing to carry around.
Nuxe 24H Refreshing Deodorant
My experience with natural deodorants has been unsuccessful and short-lived. I sweat easily so I need my deodorant to be Thor-level strong. When this natural alternative landed on my desk, I was eager to try it but wasn’t expecting much, to be honest. I ended up being pleasantly surprised. It comes in a cute little buttercup yellow packaging that makes it cuter than your average deodorant and it smells like sage and peppermint. The true test, though was how long it would last. I wore it for an entire day and didn’t ever feel like I’d forgotten to put on deodorant all together (which has happened before).
Dior Hydra Life Jelly Sleeping Mask
I wish someone had told me that I wasn’t ready for this jelly (because that’s how amazing my skin looked after). This jelly sleeping mask from Dior is inspired by two K-Beauty trends—jelly-like textures and sleeping masks. And if you know anything about K-Beauty, you know that skin over there is serious business. This is the kind of sleeping mask you want to put on when you have a big event the next day and want to look like you just had an insanely good facial. That’s how plump and dewy your skin looks the morning after.
Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil
I’ve mentioned this cleansing oil in passing in another post but it’s so good, it deserved its own post. When it comes to skincare, I love my utilitarian products (the ones that don’t necessarily smell or look the best but get the job done), but I still care about the sensorial aspect and am more likely to put things into rotation if they’re pleasurable to use (and work well, of course). This cleansing oil works wonders, obviously, but it also feels great to put on and wash off, and it smells amazing.
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick in Corail A Porter
YSL’s lipsticks always give you the kind of pretty, poppy colour that’s so popular in South Korea (remember when YSL Rouge Pur Couture in #52 Rosy Coral sold out thanks to the K-drama, You From Another Star?). That’s why I look forward to their lipsticks the way I look forward to eating fries with my burger. This shade, called Corail A Porter, is a fun pink that looks like a bright popsicle stain and smells like mango, the Rouge Volupté line’s signature scent. You also get a Goldilocks amount of shine, colour and hydration.
