All the Beauty Facts I Learned from Estée Lalonde

Canadian-born lifestyle YouTuber and author Estée Lalonde was in Toronto last week for Buffer Festival and a couple of book signings. After pinching myself a couple of times and having a major fangirl moment (to myself, of course), I had the chance to sit down with her to talk YouTube, food, fashion, her life in London and her newly released book, Bloom.

At the age of 19, Lalonde launched her YouTube channel of beauty reviews and tutorials. Six years later, it has evolved into a lifestyle channel, and she has also started a series called Fem Talk, a Q&A for girls (obvs). But before getting down to the nitty gritty of her new book and her life as a blogger, I wanted to know everything about her beauty routine.

Here’s what I learned:

Her go-to makeup look: “Today I’m wearing so much makeup because I’ve been taking pictures. On a regular day, it’s like tinted moisturizer, brow gel, lip balm and maybe a bit of bronzer…maybe! I’m very, very minimal. If I’m going out, [I’ll use] a really light coverage foundation. I feel the most like me when I wear just a little bit of makeup. I hate that feeling of wanting to scratch all that makeup off at the end of the day. I have that feeling now! I’m dying to wash my face.”

Her secret to flawless skin: “I think the best beauty secret is getting more sleep. Sleeping is the easiest way to maintain the health of your skin. That’s my favourite tip, and something I need more of.”

A makeup never: “I never wear false lashes! I still can’t figure out how to get them on.”

The products she can’t live without: “I don’t think I could live without hand creams. No specific brand, but I carry 25 in my bag at all times. I also love Lancôme Miracle Cushion All-in-One Liquid Compact Foundation and NYX Butter Glosses. Oh, and of course Eos lip balms, they’re so cute!”

Her hair care routine: “I try not to wash my hair too often because it’s already so damaged. I like to apply a hair mask once a week. I’ll either use a regular hair mask or coconut oil. Coconut oil is my go-to. As far as shampoos I like, I’m really loving the Garnier Whole Blends line.”

Her hairstyling routine: “I used to have longer hair and it didn’t suit me, but I love it on other people. I wish I could have it, but I had to accept that short hair looks better on me. Right now I’m dying to get a trim. I usually curl it on the day I shampoo it. Oh, and lots of texturizing spray!”
