I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve worn eye makeup in recent history. It’s just not my jam for a couple of reasons. A) I’m lazy and B) I don’t know what I’m doing. AT ALL. Just last week, I attempted a cat eye using liquid liner, and my whole eyeball ended up black. Like, not just my lid, but the inside of my eye. Not exactly the look I was going for…Overall, I find that eye makeup requires too much precision, which is why I usually stick to my old faithful: Lipstick. One swipe and you’re done! I can handle that.
Well, it turns out I can apply my beloved one-swipe technique to eye makeup too. There’s a bevy of eyeshadow crayons on the market that make it easier than ever to throw shade on your lids (in a good way). If you can colour—chances are you can or you wouldn’t have passed Grade One—you can get pretty, effortless eye makeup. And not to brag, but I’ve won quite a few colouring contests in my time. I kinda have a way with crayons.
Enter these grown-up versions by Maybelline, Lise Watier and Bourjois Paris that glide on super smoothly for dramatic, dressed-up eyes. The best part is they’re multifunctional: You can use them for big strokes and all-over colour or thin lines to define your peepers in lieu of eyeliner. For this photo I used NYC City Proof 24HR Eye Primer not only as a base (obviously), but also to highlight my browbones and provide a nice matte contrast to the shimmery colour. Speaking of the main attraction, I applied Maybelline’s Color Tattoo Crayon in Lilac Lust to cover my entire lid and to line my lower lash line.
The eye makeup was a unanimous hit around the office and the compliments that rolled in from my co-workers were enough to make me reconsider my usual naked lids—especially when getting the look is as easy as colouring inside the lines.
