How I’m Wearing the Monochromatic Makeup Trend

Paris Fashion Week has just ended, the smell of pumpkin spice is in the air and the leaves are changing to gorgeous red, orange and golden tones. All of these fall-related things have inspired me to vamp up my makeup game and play around with colour, specifically monochromatic makeup looks.

I was cruising through the internet and saw this gorgeous look that Pat McGrath created for the Anna Sui show.

I knew I wanted to create something similar, but featuring rusty orange tones and with a stronger lip colour. Anyone who says you can’t wear a bold lip and bold eye together needs to try this!

Step 1: I applied all of my face makeup, then dabbed Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer onto my eyes. If you’re worried about fallout, do your eye makeup first and then apply your face makeup.

Step 2: I started with a neutral light brown tone from my Urban Decay Naked palette, using a fluffy brush to blend it through the crease.

Step 3: Then I used my all-time favourite rusty orange blush colour, Lancôme’s Shimmer Rouge in Love Blush, as an eyeshadow. With the same fluffy brush, I blended it through my crease and slightly outside the outer corners of my eyes to wing it out. After that I used my finger to pat the colour all over my lids to make it really intense.

A couple of coats of Benefit’s new Rollerlash Mascara in Brown and the eyes are done!

For lips, I’ve been obsessed with the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipsticks, which include the perfect colour for this look, “Out Loud.”

I applied Clarins Instant Light Lip Primer to hydrate my lips and then swiped on the rusty orange liquid lipstick to complete my monochromatic look.
