How Zendaya inspired me to switch up my makeup

For me, this past summer was the summer of bright lipsticks. There was hardly a day that went by that I didn’t swipe on a vibrant pink, orange or coral lippy. But as the temperatures drop and the evening shadows deepen, I’ve naturally found myself shifting over to a more somber colour palette. And then I saw Zendaya at the American Music Awards with a pretty pink lip and softly defined eyes, and something in my brain shifted.

Who says you can’t wear pink lipstick in the winter? WHO? Just because it’s cold and grey outside doesn’t mean your makeup bag has to lack a little sunshine! I quickly set out to recreate a toned-down version of Zendaya’s look for daytime using Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in RSVP and Maybelline New York’s ColorBlur Cream Matte Pencil in I’m Blushing. My co-worker Joanna Kam praised these lip pencils here, and if you haven’t added one to your roster yet, you need to get on it! Seriously. Unlike other matte lipsticks that are dry and tug at your lips as you apply them, the Cream Matte Pencil glides on like butter. I’m totally in love with “I’m Blushing,” as it’s the perfect pink to brighten up your face without being, well, too in your face.

Oh, and just in case you don’t already think Zendaya is the coolest: she apparently did her own makeup for the AMAs (she also admitted to eating macaroni and cheese pre-red carpet). She’s one seriously stylish young lady after my own heart, and I’ll definitely keep watching her like a hawk for beauty inspiration!
