I’m currently in the middle of wedding planning hell. I’m tying the knot in a little under two months and trying to organize a caterer, get my dress fitted, plan my honeymoon (among 100 other things) is taking a serious toll on my sanity. The one thing I’m actually really digging about planning a wedding? Getting my beauty look all sorted out. I’ve been mulling over what I want to do for my wedding makeup for months now and I keep going back to two different styles. Natural, glowing skin with subtly defined eyes and neutral eyes with a pop of colour on the lips.
I’m a low key bride and my dress is v. ’70s Stevie Nicks boho so I want to keep my beauty look in the same earth goddess vein but still be modern. Being a former makeup artist I have done up my fair share of brides and the majority of them usually go with the same type of look: Neutral but super glam (think Kim K without the kontouring). I know I want something a bit different so I’ve been hitting up Google on the regular. I’ve narrowed my bridal best in show looks down to Poppy Delevingne (subtle bronze smoky eye, nude lip) and Solange Knowles (neutral eye, tomato red lip). I can’t get enough of both of these looks so I decided to take them for a trial run to help me figure out what I’m going to pull out on my big day.
Here’s what you need to get both looks:
- Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Extreme Shimmer Shadow & Liner in Gold Nude
- CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick in Sphinx
- Lancôme Grandiôse Mascara
- Rimmel London Lasting Finish Soft Colour Blush in Live Pink
This look is just straight up classic and I love it. It’s so pretty because it adds the right amount of emphasis on your eyes without going OTT but it’s all dewy and bronze goddess-y, perfect for a summer wedding. If I rock this on my wedding day I would also add a set of natural lashes for a little extra oomph. The only thing I wonder…is it…fun enough? Part of me feels like it’s missing that something special.
- Rodial Eye Sculpt
- Smashbox X-Rated Mascara
- Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder in Natural – Blondes
- Maybelline New York Color Blur by Lipstudio Cream Matte Pencil & Smudger in Orange You Glad
I remember when Solange got married, and her look is etched in my brain for eternity. That lip, that hair! Absolute perfection. I love that it’s so simple yet so memorable. Women always seem so scared to add colour to their wedding day beauty, but I will never understand why. A red lip is classic people, classic. This look is more my style but where my dress is intricate with embellishments, I wonder if adding colour is throwing too much into my look. I do love how the lip just brightens my whole face though.
After trying out both looks, I’m still undecided as I love both equally for different reasons. Knowing me I’ll probably go with something completely different. My beauty preferences change with the wind so who knows what I’ll be feeling the day of my nuptials. Stay tuned to find out!
