Summer is over, now it’s time to start embracing the new season and the stunning makeup trends that come along with it. From models working the Fall 2016 runways to celebs attending TIFF, it’s obvious that dark lipstick is totally a thing. One look that I can’t help but obsess over is Bella Hadid walking the DKNY runway during New York Fashion Week. Pairing dark lips with a natural eye, Bella pulls off the look flawlessly, and it’s inspired me to dig through my makeup collection to find all of my deep plum, brown and burgundy lip products.

Here’s what I used:
- Know Cosmetics No Bleeding Lips
- Stila Stay All Day Lip Liner in Cabernet
- Stila Stay All Day Matte’ificent lipstick in Bordeaux
- Smashbox High Definition Concealer
Step One: I started by lining the outer edges of my lips with No Bleeding Lips. This step is especially important when playing around with darker shades because it helps to keep the lipstick from feathering.
Step Two: I lined my lips, starting at my cupid’s bow and working my way to the outer corners. From here I added more liner around my outer lip line and blended it inwards to cover the majority of my lips. This step not only prevents bleeding, but it also allows me to play with my lip shape and keep my lip colour vibrant.
Step Three: I applied the Bordeaux lipstick all over my lips, making sure to stay within the lines. In harder to reach areas I find it’s best to apply the lipstick with a fine-pointed brush for better precision.
Step Four: Using a small brush, I touched up the outer line of my lips with the Smashbox concealer. This helps to cover up any small mistakes, giving it a very clean and finished look.
And voila! I have officially channeled my inner goth and joined the dark side!
