Foundation has always been my makeup must-have. I was 18 when I started experimenting with different types and coverages. Back then I was wearing way more than I needed, and shades that never matched my skin. Oh, and I didn’t own any brushes or sponges, I just used my hands. I obviously didn’t get the radiant glow that I was aiming for, but I never stopped trying. Since then I’ve found a way to apply foundation that works best for me, and I’ve worn it every day for the past past six years, juggling between liquid, powder and tinted moisturizer. Foundation has become my security blanket: It covers up my acne scars and makes me feel pretty. But I wish things were different. I want to leave my house without foundation on my face. I want to feel confident with just a couple of dabs of concealer and slay the day! So I have been trying to avoid foundation and focus more on skincare.
Here is my foundation-free makeup routine:
After exfoliating and cleansing my face, I apply two pumps of Nip + Fab Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Serum onto my fingers and push it into my skin. Made with hyaluronic acid, this serum plumps the skin, delivers a shot of hydration and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. To treat my acne scars and prevent future skin damage, I then apply Dr. Roebucks Protect & Prevent Serum on my forehead and nose.
I’ve been using Dr. Roebuck’s Eye Generation Cream under my eyes. It helps reduce the look of dark circles and puffiness. Keep it in the fridge or by your window and it will soothe the puffiness faster.
After letting the serum and eye cream set into my skin, I apply Estée Lauder The Illuminator Radiant Perfecting Primer + Finisher. I’m skipping moisturizer because the primer acts as a moisturizing gel and primer. I learned this trick from vlogger Julie Vu, who says it will help avoid heaviness and excess oil. Using a luminizing primer will really help give your skin a healthier glow.
Now it’s time for concealer. I’ve been using Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer for my undereye area. It’s great for highlighting and brightening. And I’ve been using a matte concealer like Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer to cover up imperfections, focusing on the corners of my mouth and nose. Both have maximum coverage, so a little goes a long way. I’ve been spot covering the concealer wherever it is needed and blending it with my ring finger.
This look is super easy and it feels empowering to walk out the door almost bare faced. Not only is it giving me a confidence boost, but it’s really giving my skin a chance to breathe again.
