I’m a sucker for rose gold. My flat iron is white and rose gold, my headphones are rose gold, and most of my jewellery is too. My favourite eyeliner? Vasanti Kajal Extreme Intense Eye Pencil in Rose Gold. Like a moth to a flame. So when Rosie Huntington-Whiteley posted a photo of her disco-inspired rose gold makeup (done by makeup artist Patrick Ta) on Instagram, I was all over it. I screen-grabbed the photo and immediately raided Glow’s beauty drawers.
The star of the look is obviously the shimmery rose gold eye shadow. Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow has a similar photo-friendly shade called Metallic Dusty Rose. It also has a cool little application trick that lets you turn up the colour by mixing the primer and eyeshadow together in the mixing tray (the shadow comes with all those things). To really make it pop, I started with a different eyeshadow as a base, a more opaque bronze rose eyeshadow that I applied all the way up to my brow bone (Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Hammamet) Then, I pressed on the Stila eyeshadow.
For added definition, I used Bourjois ColorBand Eyeshadow & Liner in Noir Abstrait (to get that soft, smokey effect at the base) and followed up with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara, concentrating on the roots of the lashes.
After brushing away any fall out, I used Smashbox Fusion Soft Lights in Baked Stardust on my cheeks. I’m a big fan of all-in-one bronzer, blush and highlighter combos and this one sculpts your cheeks—a necessity if you aren’t blessed with Rosie’s sky-high cheekbones—without making you look like case of contouring gone wrong.
I kept the gloss in the same colour family by choosing Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Diorama. The brush tip applicator lets you paint your lips with precision while the formula is pumped up with hyaluronic acid, giving you some hope of imitating her pillowy pout.
While Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s overall look is a bit OTT (it was her birthday, after all), you don’t have to use all these products. You can skip the liner to make it more daytime friendly or forgo the primer by just patting the shade directly onto your eyes. You can even hold off on the blush. Right now, I’m savouring wearing everything at the same time. Because, rose gold.
