This fall/winter season there were a lot of beautiful eye looks gracing the runways for 2016-2017. Surprisingly, some of them are super easy and wearable, so you can totally work them into your makeup routine to shake it up a little.
Here are three fashion-forward looks and how you can achieve them to channel your inner supermodel.
The Look: Smoky Eyes
Smoky eyes will never go out of style, but switching it up a bit can make this runway staple wearable for after work drinks or date night. Saint Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro and Moschino showcased classic black smoky eyes and some glitter, so I thought I’d make this look a little less intimidating by changing the intensity of the colour and opting for a brown eyeshadow instead.
Using Smashbox’s Eyeshadow Trio in Filter I used the two brown shades to create a soft smoky look. First I used the lighter beige shade all over my eyelids and crease, then layered the chocolate brown shade on top to create that smoky fade from dark to light.
Pro tip: The key to mastering the smoky eye is to have the most concentration of colour closest to your lash line and for the colour to soften and gradually fade as you move further from the lash line.
The Look: Lived-in Liner
Liner is one of those staples most of us have in our makeup kits. This year if you’ve had a long night out on Friday you can wake up on Saturday and go to brunch still looking totally done up with this lived-in eye liner look as seen at Versace, Adam Selman and Chloe.
To create this rocker look I used Vasanti’s Kajal Waterline in Black. Kajal liners or kohl liners are great for this technique because of their creamy texture. They glide on like butter and are easy to smudge, allowing you to create the perfect grungy day-after eyes. Add a little gloss to your eyelids for a hint of shine and you’re good to go.
Pro tip: If your skin is on the oily side, use an oil control primer to keep your makeup in place and prevent your liner from bleeding too low or too high on your eyelids.
The Look: Glitter Eyes
Fresh off the runways of Burberry, Fausto Puglisi and Giambattista Valli, glittery eyes are all the rage this season. It’s a simple way to add some whimsical femininity to your look and it’s also perfect for the holiday season. If you are the adventurous type you can opt for bold colours like blue or green, but if you like to stick to the classics try a gold or silver glitter that will go with just about any outfit.
To get the perfect glittery eyes I used Stila’s Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Shadow in Rose Quartz. To bring out the more pink tones of the foil shadow I complemented it with warm eyeshadows in my crease and lower lash lines. The great thing about this shadow is you can control its opacity to really customize your look.
Pro tip: Mix a bit of the foil shadow with the eye primer it comes with and sweep it across your lids for a sheer, soft finish. To get a full glittery effect, apply primer to your lid with your finger first, and then dab the foil shadow over top.
