The Glitziest New Year’s Eve Beauty Look You Need to Try

While I admit I’m a bit of a homebody, I’m still a beauty junkie. So even if I’m just going to be laying low this New Year’s Eve, I’ll still want my face to look festive. I mean, who knows? If it’s not too cold and there’s something enticing happening, you might see me out and about. But it’s more likely that I’ll be home snuggled in front of the fire with a glass (or bottle) of champers. No matter where I end up, though, one thing’s for sure: I’ll be rocking glitter.

Elle Fanning Glitter-Tears

Sparkly makeup continued its reign on the runways this year, spotted at plenty of fall 2016 and spring 2017 shows. One of my fave glitter looks was at Burberry, where makeup artist Wendy Rowe glitzed up models’ lids and under their eyes with gold, silver and multicoloured shiny stuff. The look was on par with the whole glitter tear trend, and celebs like Elle Fanning and Suki Waterhouse have even been spotted wearing it on the red carpet.

While full-on glitter tears might be a smidge OTT even for New Year’s Eve, I’ve given the look a more wearable—but just as glitzy—spin.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Nars x Sarah Moon Eyeshadow Duo in Quai Des Brumes
  • Urban Decay Heavy Metals Liquid Liner in Midnight Cowboy
  • Vasanti Kajal Waterline Eyeliner in Waterline Black
  • CoverGirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara

Step 1 – Start off by applying your fave eyeshadow primer all over your lids. I’m using Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Once that sets, using a fluffy blending brush, buff the Nars duo onto your lids. I used the shimmery grey shade up to my crease, then buffed the matte shade on the outer corner and through my crease. I used a small, dense brush to blend both shades into my lower lash line.

Step 2 – Apply Vasanti’s Kajal pencil right onto your lash line, then take an angle brush or the small dense brush you used on your lower lash line and smudge and smoke out the liner.

Step 3 – Now comes the fun part…glitter! I mostly applied the glitter on my lower lash line to make glitter tears, but I also applied some on my upper lash line for an added hit of sparkle.

Step 4 – Go to town with your lash curler and give your lashes some bend. Next, apply a few coats of a volumizing mascara to the top and bottom lashes. If you want to really glam it up, throw on a pair of false lashes.

Step 5 – Using a fan brush, dust away any eyeshadow that’s fallen under your eyes, then apply your fave highlighter and blush. Finish off the look by swiping on a neutral or nude lippy (I’m wearing my latest fave, Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick in Nude Flush).

Lastly, and most importantly, get out there and have fun on New Year’s Eve! I guarantee you’ll get compliments on your super on-trend glittery glam makeup.
