The Star Wars Beauty Look That Spiced Up My Makeup Routine

When I first heard the news that CoverGirl and Star Wars were partnering up I was excited. Being an old school Star Wars fan (the original three installments only, please) and a beauty fanatic, the idea of these two brands working together just seemed well…cool. Amazingly enough, I was offered the chance to go to NYC to listen to Pat McGrath, CoverGirl’s global creative design director, discuss the collab. As a former makeup artist, being in the same room as a beauty legend like McGrath was insanely inspiring and exciting (to say I was fangirl-ing would be an understatement). I learned that McGrath herself is a giant Star Wars fan (she’s loves the whole fantasy behind the films) and she spoke a little bit about each of the six looks (there are three light side and three dark).

I love how theatrical all of the looks are but it’s not like silver lips are exactly work appropriate, so I decided to try out one of the looks by re-creating a more wearable version. I went against my instincts and choose a look from the dark side (why not?).

CoverGirl-Chrome-Captain-Look-web

Chrome Captain was my look of choice (judging by my hair colour you can probably tell I have a penchant for silver tones). To re-create the Chrome Captain look (or my more wearable version) you will need the following goodies from CoverGirl:

  • Bombshell ShineShadow in Ice Queen
  • The SuperSizer by Lashblast Mascara in Very Black
  • Ink It! By Perfect Point Plus All-Day Eye Pencil in Black Ink
  • Eyeshadow Quad in Stunning Smokeys
  • Clean Glow Blusher in Peaches
  • Colorlicious Lipstick in Crème

Step 1

Before applying any eyeshadow I swiped on an eye primer as my lids are oily which can make blending shadows a nightmare. My eye primer of choice is Urban Decay Primer Potion (it’s my all-time fave). After that set I went in with my finger and buffed Bombshell ShineShadow in Ice Queen over my lids and into the inner corner of my eyes.

Step 2

Take a fluffy blending brush and dust the champagne eyeshadow from the Stunning Smokeys Eyeshadow Quad over your silver shadow. Next use the same blending brush and blend the black shadow from the quad into the crease of your eye for a smoky effect.

Step 3

Using a smaller, denser eyeshadow brush, apply the black shadow onto the outer corners of your eyes into a wing shape and blend with your fluffy brush. Here is where I went a little crazy with the eyeliner, applying it all around my eye (including my upper and lower lash lines).

Final Step

I added a few coats of mascara, a swish of CG’s Clean Glow Blush over my cheeks and a touch of Colorlicious Lipstick and boom: a slightly more natural and less menacing Chrome Captain.

This is more makeup than I’m used to wearing but I kinda dig it. I’d potentially test-drive this look on one of my (rare) nights out on the town.
