What I Learned From My Favourite Vlogger Chrisspy

I don’t know where I’d be today without YouTube makeup tutorials. If it weren’t for them, I think I’d still wear three layers of different foundation everyday and continue to use black kohl liner to fill in my brows (I seriously wish I was kidding, but that was my reality!). Video makeup tutorials take all the credit for my current beauty routine. A huge shout out goes out to all of the beauty bloggers who dedicate their time to share personal makeup tips and secrets (a.k.a. my virtual best friends).

If you’re like me and you love watching makeup tutorials, I trust you were at Generation Beauty Toronto (Gen Beauty). But in case you’ve never heard of it, it’s an event (or paradise) where beauty bloggers/vloggers/enthusiasts gather together to share beauty advice, receive amazing beauty-filled swag bags, get free makeovers and, of course, meet their favourite YouTube beauty vloggers. It was Gen Beauty’s first time in Toronto, so I was super excited to attend.

At Gen Beauty I got to meet one of my favourite vloggers, Chrisspy. Having a professional background as a makeup artist, Chrisspy used her Instagram as a creative outlet to share her beauty looks. After gaining popularity she decided that making YouTube videos was the next step. Besides making beauty tutorials on her YouTube channel, ChrisspyMakeup, she also likes to talk about women’s issues, such as body image and confidence.

Chrisspy is best known for her dressed-up eyes, sharp contours and flawless complexion. Together we talked about her best makeup advice, favourite products and how to become a successful beauty vlogger. Here’s what I learned:

Tip for flawless foundation: “I really love using a pore minimizing primer and applying the foundation with a beauty blender.”

Secret to long-lasting eyeshadow: “Using an eyeshadow primer really helps, even if you’re using a cheap eyeshadow. If you put a primer on first, it will make it go on nice and smooth.”

Contouring hack: “I like to use a powder because it’s softer and you can build coverage little by little.”

Favourite makeup trend: Faux Freckles.

Desert island product(s): CoverGirl Cheekers Blush in Classic Pink and NYC Liquid Eyeliner

Makeup mistakes she makes: “My eyebrows ares always testy. They kind of have a mind of their own sometimes.”

Must-have beauty tool: “You really need one or two good brushes and you can do a lot with them. I believe a good artist is someone that can improvise, so you don’t necessarily need a ton of makeup to start with. To be a good artist you can always make things with anything.”

Best advice for future vloggers: “Always be yourself, because there are so many talented artists out there and the only way you can differentiate yourself is just by being you.”
