Why Alicia Vikander is My New Beauty Crush

It started at the SAG awards when Alicia Vikander’s golden shimmery eyeshadow and rosy lip colour made my heart go pitter-patter. I loved everything about it, which is sort of surprising when you consider that my own beauty formulabright lipstick and minimal (err, zero) eye makeup—is pretty much the polar opposite. Vikander’s look was way outside my comfort zone, but I liked it. And the more I Googled her, the more my crush blossomed. It turns out she has a beauty formula of her own (Stars, they’re just like us!): She’s all about glowing skin and sophisticated neutrals, and she rocked a similar look at the SAGs, the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards. Needless to say, there were tons of photos to turn to for inspiration when I decided to try this at home.

Since luminous skin is the cornerstone of Vikander’s look, I started by applying Vichy’s Idéalia BB Cream all over my face. This product does a great job of covering imperfections and imparting a healthy glow (NOT shine) while feeling light and airy.

This Nars Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Telesto is so nice I almost bought it twice. True story. Even though I don’t normally wear eyeshadow, this one was speaking to me. Loudly. And it just so happens it was perfect for recreating Vikander’s look. It turns out, this bronze colour makes my green eyes pop like crazy! (Note to self: wear more eyeshadow).

To really play up my eyes, I reached for Stila’s Huge Extreme Lash Mascara, and let me tell you, “huge” and “extreme” are no exaggeration. Just one coat gave me lush lashes verging on falsie territory. This is definitely my new go-to mascara for serious drama with seriously minimal effort.

Last but not least, the perfect neutral lip colour: Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Redwood Forest. I initially gravitated towards this shade because it has red in the name (duh!), but it turns out it’s actually more of a dusty rose hue, like a slightly deeper version of my natural lip colour. It’s nice to have a subtle option in my roster for those days when I’m not feeling cherry red or hot pink.

Obviously, I’ll be watching Vikander like a hawk at this weekend’s Oscars (she’s nominated in the best supporting actress category for her performance in The Danish Girl), but no matter what happens at the awards she’s already a winner in my books!
