Spoiler alert: Rihanna is my ultimate beauty crush. Girl can do no wrong in my eyes when it comes to her hair and makeup whether she’s caught by the paparazzi or on the red carpet. She’s not afraid to take risks, be it with her hair (she’s rocked almost every shade in the colour wheel—including bright blue) or her makeup (hello, green lipstick). So when I know Riri is attending an event, my beauty spidey senses get a little tingly—what will she sport this time? While her super bold choices stand out, one of her more recent (and relatively tame) looks is one of my fave. At the Brit Awards last month, she showed up wearing lavender eyeshadow to match her spaghetti-strapped Armani Privé gown. The whole look was totally ’90s and I was loving every part of it. Her eye look, complete with multiple hues of frosty purple brought back memories of my own go-to shadow when I was a teen (I lived for frosty makeup—insert cringe face here).
If Rihanna wears it, I must also wear it, obviously. To recreate the look, Stila’s Eyes are the Window to the Body Shadow Palette is perfect as it has a few really great purple shadows and a good shimmery highlight. I paired that with Joe Fresh Matte Liquid Eyeliner and Revlon’s Volume + Length Magnified Mascara as she’s wearing a cat eye and bold lashes with her pastel lids. While I used all three shades of purple, to simplify the look you can just use a soft lavender hue all over your lid along with your black liner and mascara. Tip: The key to this style is to blend the purple into the inner corners of your eye to get that pop of colour.
Years ago when I spent more time on my makeup, I used to rock purple eyeshadow as it always made my green eyes standout but now I opt for a few more zzz’s in the morning over making up my face. While I won’t be breaking out the pastel shadows on the regular, it’s fun to add some colour to my typical cat eye.
