Beauty Hack: Why You Need to Try the Glitter Lip Trend

Social media beauty trends change with the weather, but the latest one taking over Instagram that’s had some staying power is (drum roll please)…..glitter lips! Thanks to makeup legend Pat McGrath, who painted models’ pouts at Atelier Versace’s July haute couture show with red glitter, and celebs like Rihanna, sparkle lips are now de rigueur. I was hesitant to try it at first, but soon all the sparkly goodness permeated my brain and I suddenly got the urge to get glittery. Hot tip: When it comes to glitter, you need to be super careful with what you use if you’re applying it anywhere on your face. You can’t just pick up any ol’ craft store glitter and go to town. Always make sure you’re using cosmetic grade glitter (v.v. important).

Here’s what I used to recreate the glitter lip trend:

Q-Tips and Marcelle Gentle Makeup Remover (for clean up)

Step 1:
I coloured my lips with the Stila lipstick and let it completely dry.

Step 2:
Pop the top off the Urban Decay glitter, dip your brush into the tube and carefully paint over your purple pout with the pink glitter. I like using Quo’s Concealer Brush for this because it has a fine tip and synthetic hairs so it’s super easy to clean hard-to-remove lipstick from the bristles when you’re done. You may have to do a few coats to thoroughly cover the lipstick.

Step 3:
Lastly, tidy up the edges of your lips if necessary with a Q-Tip and an oil-based makeup remover. And you’re done!
