Why I’m Rocking Bold, Anything-but-Bridal Nails at my Wedding

I’m getting married this summer and the day is fast approaching, which means I need to stop being the indecisive bride I’ve been and start committing to some decisions. One of those decisions that I need to make: My wedding day nail colour.

If you know me at all, you know I live my life in colour; everything from my desk accessories to yoga clothes (which I have an addiction to buying) is bright beyond control—almost obnoxiously so—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s funny, then, when you’re approaching the “big day” (which is terrifyingly less than three months from now) that the status quo for “wedding colours,” particularly when pertaining to the bride, are pastel, demure and 50 shades of boring.

Don’t get me wrong—I love an off-white, light-pink mani, especially in the summer when my skin does that amazing glowy tan thing. But, if your wedding day is supposed to be all about you, then why on earth would I choose something so unequivocally not me?

So, for my wedding day, I’m daring to go bold, because that’s me. Here are some of the shades in the running for the big day.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Happy Daze: Well, the name says it all. Your wedding is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life (though, frankly, I’m more excited about my honeymoon in Bali—because, well, Bali). This muted almost-fuchsia shade will go perfectly with my wedding flowers and is bright enough to appease my colourful tastes without offending the conservative crowd.

Ceramic Glaze Nail Lacquer in Perfect Peony: By far the brightest of the bunch, if nothing else, this will be a staple summer shade for me and may even be a contender for the wedding pedicure (gotta go bright from head to toe).

Essie Nail Polish in Going Guru: Okay, so technically this is a pastel. I get that. But after painting on the requisite two coats, this colour made a much bolder statement than I expected. This minty-lime may just be the winning shade of the bunch—and not just because the travel-inspired collection goes perfectly with my post-nuptial vacation destination.

Decisions, decisions. At least the cake was an easy sell.
