Yogurt is saving my skin this winter

I know you’ve seen those yogurt commercials that promise um, regularity, if you frequently imbibe a specific brand’s product. And while I’m a firm believer in the importance of gut health, there’s another benefit to regular use of yogurt that you might not expect — by using it on your face.

If you’re not familar with the skin-saving properties of yogurt, get ready for a truth bomb of epic proportions. Not just for a midday snack, the lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) in yogurt helps exfoliate the top layer of skin. I find that it gently exfoliates so it won’t trouble sensitive visages. In fact, it’s a great anti-redness treatment for my sensitive skin, and incredibly soothing and cooling for red, irritated faces. It also has great anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties which make it a great acne/breakout treatment, especially before a night out.

Don’t like the idea of piling plain yogurt on your face? There are some great products out there that include all the great bonuses of yogurt without the mess.
Try the Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial for an indulgent night mask or Philosophy’s Miracle worker anti-aging lactic acid cleanser & mask.
And if you really want an extra DIY boost, add some Honey (link to last week’s honey piece) to that yogurt, slather it on and let nature cure what ails!
