I have what I not so affectionately call tomato face. Every time I exercise (or get emotional, for that matter), my face turns beet red to the point where people have stopped me coming out of yoga to ask if I’m OK. It’s really annoying, and yes, I’m fine. I don’t know why it happens, but I generally don’t care. It’s only when I see the stares on the subway after my flow class that I get self-conscious about it.
It’s obvious that my body reacts to being hot and bothered in a very physical way—the blood surfacing when I do some crazy cardio workout or even a round of vinyasa flows—but while I consider it to be a post-flow glow, others are clearly concerned for my health.
Of course, there are products out there to help, which is why I’m forgoing my post-yoga no-product rule.
Firstly, you will never, ever find my gym bag free of makeup wipes. Even if I’m not wearing a stitch of makeup to class, I always have these guys with me. The main reason? While I love to reap the benefits of sweating, it dries my skin out like nobody’s business.
When I get out of class, the first thing I do is wipe off the sweat with Korres Greek Yoghurt Cleansing & Make-Up Removing Wipes, which soothe and nourish my now angry skin (I can never tell if it’s mad because I worked out or because the class is done… hmm). After my skin’s been given a good cleanse, I spray whatever facial mist or thermal water I have in my bag at the moment (I tend to switch it up with the seasons, opting for something a little more hydrating in the winter since I often walk bare-faced to the subway and then home). My current spring/summer fave: Vichy Eau Thermale.
With a quick mist across my visage, my skin instantly feels cooled down and within moments I’m back to my regular complexion. I can now head home without people thinking I’m going to pass out (even if I feel like I might because I forgot to eat a snack before class—rookie mistake).
