Why I Greened Out My Skincare Routine

It seems like everyone loves kale—everyone but me. No matter how many berries I throw into my smoothie or how hard I try, I just don’t like the stuff. While I eat my greens (often begrudgingly), I come from the camp of “You don’t make friends with salad.” But, that doesn’t mean I have to skimp out on my greens—at least when it comes to my skincare routine.

To give my skin a double dose of complexion-boosting brightness, I reach for Nip+Fab’s Soften Kale Fix Clay Mask and Juice Beauty’s Antioxidant Moisturizer.

We all know the laundry list of reasons greens are good for you, but many people don’t know the skin-loving ingredients they provide, too, which is why we’re seeing so many more detoxing, salad-sounding skincare products. Packed with vitamins A, C and K, it’s no wonder people love kale—but this is the first time I’ve ever enjoyed it. And as for Juice Beauty, their products come packed with antioxidant, vitamin-rich apple, grape and aloe to restore lustre to your skin.

I tried both of the products together (because no one ever gets a small kale salad) to give myself the full green treatment (plus a little pampering).

Step 1:
I started by washing my face with warm water to open my pores, allowing more room for the treatment to work its magic.

Step 2:
Next I applied the Kale Fix Clay Mask to my clean, dry skin and left it on for about 10 minutes. To my surprise, it wasn’t green (kind of a bummer—I always like freaking out my fiancé with my weird beauty habits).

Step 3:
After washing off the mask with warm water, I applied the Juice Beauty Antioxidant Moisturizer to my face and neck.

My skin instantly looked brighter and felt more hydrated, and when I woke up the next morning, my complexion was still even and looked like I’d actually gotten some rest (I hadn’t).

Maybe I can make peace with greens after all.
