With the impending arrival of warmer weather, spring cleaning is taking over all aspects of my life. I’ve spruced up my apartment, cleaned out my closet and even tidied my desk at work (a rare occasion). Since I’m all about deep cleaning, I realized my skin is the most in need of a good scrubdown, coming out of a long, cold winter where I’ve been a bit slack on my usual skincare routine. Having a small addiction to masks, I dug through my stash to find the top detoxifying masks to give my pores a proper scrubbing. Here are a few of the latest masks I’m slapping on to get my skin happy, healthy and glowing for spring.
Biotherm Wonder Mud Mask
Use when: you’re pressed for time
I have mad love for this quickie miracle mask. If I’m in a rush I reach for this green algae clay as it only needs 3 minutes (!) to work its magic, which makes it perfect for a quick morning detox. Having larger pores, I know my way around a good mud mask, but this one’s different from the ones I’ve tried before. Unlike traditional clay masks, it doesn’t dry out on my skin (I hate when they dry and get super tight), so it doesn’t feel like it’s sucking all the moisture out of my face. Packed with antioxidants and minerals, it draws out impurities (and exfoliates!) plus adds a glow to my skin.
Clarisea Sea Salt Solutions Deep Pore Detox Exfoliating Mask
Use when: you need to bring in the big guns
This all-natural charcoal mask is heavy duty in the best way possible. Containing calendula to soothe redness and bamboo charcoal to absorb toxins, it gets deep down and pulls all the gunk and oil out of your pores. It cleaned out a few of my stubborn blackheads and it’s a must-use during breakouts as it minimizes inflammation and helps existing pimples heal faster. Plus, the powder formula mixes with water (1 tablespoon of powder with 1/2 tablespoon of water), which makes it feel like you’re conducting a cool beauty-infused science experiment.
StriVectin Oxygen Infusion Smoothing Mask
Use when: you need a deep clean + a hydration boost
This mask gets a gold star because the texture of it is totally unique. When you apply it on your skin it’s in gel form, but within a few seconds it foams up off the face to infuse skin with oxygen. I sometimes use it on its own or I’ll use it after another mask to instantly hydrate my skin. This is another one that requires almost no time and delivers immediate results. Containing beta-hydroxy acids, which exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, it also lifts dirt and grime from your pores. This one is my go-to before a big night out as it always leaves my skin clear, clean and super smooth in 5 minutes flat.
