After a particularly stressful week, or even just a very long day, everyone deserves to relax and be pampered. Heck, we should all pamper ourselves whenever we feel like it! My favourite way to treat myself is to put on Netflix, get some yummy snacks, and indulge in a luxe face mask. But, because I’m a gal with dry skin, the average detoxifying/purifying face mask can leave my skin feeling a little bit too tight and dry. To remedy this, I have perfected my formula for my ultimate face mask routine.
To start, I always make sure I remove all my makeup and have a clean face. I then place a hot damp cloth over my skin to help open up my pores. If you have sensitive skin, I would skip this step.
Then choose your favourite detoxifying or purifying mask and apply it all over your face, avoiding the eye and lip areas. Sometimes I use my fingers, sometimes I use a clean foundation brush, depending on what I feel like that day. I really love Estée Lauder’s Clear Difference Purifying Exfoliating Mask. It has an amazing, fresh lemony smell and tiny little granules that exfoliate my skin when I rinse it off. Some of my other favourites are Biotherm Wonder Mud Mask and Vichy Normaderm Scrub + Cleanser + Mask. You can leave some masks on until they dry completely, while others, like the one I used, should only be left on for five minutes max. Leaving a mask on for too long can irritate the skin so make sure you follow the instructions to the letter.
After you’ve washed off your first mask—we’re not done yet—because we’re now going to do another one! I always follow up my purifying masks with a hydrating one to add extra moisture back into my skin. I apply Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate as my serum, then layer Clarins Blue Orchid Face Oil over top. That’s my secret weapon: applying a face oil underneath a hydrating mask will make your skin incredibly soft. Just make sure to press your mask on over top instead of rubbing it on or the layered products can ball up underneath. Then I use Lancôme Hydra-Intense Gel Masque, leave it on for five minutes, then use a damp washcloth to remove the excess product. After that, it’s one more Netflix show (ok, maybe three or four) and off to bed.
