Although the weather outside still feels like winter in Game of Thrones, I’m an optimistic person who’s looking forward to warmer days. In hopes of inciting spring, I’m writing about my 2017 spring makeup. I like having a go-to look each morning, so I can save time rifling through my makeup bag wondering what to do with my face.
My look this coming season was inspired by a makeup tutorial I saw on British makeup artist Lisa Eldridge’s YouTube channel. While surfing her blog, I spotted the ‘Downton Abbey Inspired Makeup Tutorial’ that features one of the show’s lead actors, Laura Carmichael. DA is one of my favourite shows, so naturally I had to try the look. I instantly fell in love with it, since it perfectly accentuates a person’s natural features. With a bit of tweaking, I made it my own.
After toning and moisturizing my face, I start by applying L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation in Creamy Natural, making sure to buff it out to my neck, the edges of my face and my hairline. I love this foundation for its lightweight texture; it feels like it’s barely there! I then move on to concealer. For this, I use Essence All I Need Concealer palette in 10 Cover It All. This palette’s five mixable shades blend seamlessly into my skin, giving me natural-looking coverage of under-eye shadows and blemishes.
My third step involves Rimmel London Match Perfection Silky Loose Face Powder. Using my bronzing brush, which picks up the perfect amount of powder, I dust it lightly under and around my eyes and on my eyelids. I also dust it across my forehead, chin and cheeks. This helps my foundation and concealer last all day.
My fourth and fifth steps are personal modifications I’ve made to Eldridge’s tutorial. I take a brown eyeliner pencil and lightly line my upper lash line, so close to the lashes that you can barely see it. This way, it defines my eyes while keeping my look natural. I then apply a dab of rosy cream blush to my cheeks and eyelids with the pads of my fingers, blending thoroughly for a flushed look.
To complete my eyes, I use Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Curling and Lifting Mascara in Brown. I love this colour for spring, and the mascara eliminates the need to curl lashes without clumping. My finishing touch involves a swipe of Vasanti Best Balm Forever (BBF) Tinted Lipbalm in Girl Talk. This pink raspberry shade perfectly complements my look and only requires one swipe for each lip. I can apply it more heavily for a darker berry colour, or press my lips into a tissue post-application for a lighter “bitten” look. Now all I need is spring weather!
